Default Axle Nut

Does anyone know much time one has to to perform this repair once the clicking noise starts? The noise is very infrequent. What are the potential consequences of delay???

potential consequences are screwed up wheel bearings (which might be the clicking problem to begin with in some cases). I wouldn't wait too long.

The axle nut replacement process would take approx. 5 minutes/nut. (if that). Well worth the time.
