Default Back from Blown F20C incident....

Well, I'm back on the board. I dont know if many people remember reading the original blown engine thread but i'll summerize. Bascially, I let my friend drive, he was close to redline in third and went to drop it into fourth but threw it back into 2nd causing massive damage to the engine. It was taken away August 22 to my Honda dealership....

We tried to get the incident covered under warantee but they wouldn't do it. In large part because they had my post from this board which admitted the driver error. Honda sent a representative to my dealer with the post printed out and told him that the work to be done was not to be covered under warantee. HONDA DOES MONITOR THIS BOARD!!!!

On Monday morning the FULL ENGINE should be delivered to my Honda dealership. It was shipped in full (not int parts) straight from Japan; it would have been here sooner if it were not for the WTC tragedy. The old engine was messed up so bad that they just decided to pull it out and bring another one in. The car should be done end of next week or begining of next.

As it stands right now, I dont know if I am going to keep this S2k with the new engine or go for a new 2002 S2k. Hopefully with all the work on the car, it drives the same as the original engine. I hope that people on the board can learn from my misjudgement. Please be careful with your S2k. There is alot of time and wasted money from a STUPID move on my part and a blown shift.

If anyone has any suggestions on whether I should keep my 2001 or get a 2002, or just general comments on the whole situation feel free to reply.

Well I guess that answers anybodys questions on if Honda monitiors this board. Wish I could have that job. Im unemployed right now and can telecommute!

I think sticking with your car is fine. Though definitly take a long hard look at the 2002 and see what was changed and if you like it.(I don't!)

How can we tell you which to go for if you don't post the costs involved?

Was there any recourse through your insurance company's comprehensive coverage?

As to whether you should keep the car - it will be the less expensive alternative. Engine swaps, though mechanically challenging, shouldn't affect the driveability of the car. Switching to an '02 will cost you the price differential but will net a new car with some upgrades. If it were me, I wouldn't do it, but it's really your call. Good luck with the rebuild.

Jesus!!!!!!!!! $12k..... dang, think I will be extra careful with my shifts!!

And, you just made up my mind, no one else is going to drive my S2000, unless I'm with them and know how to shift!

Um, how did they know it was you? (I'm assuming here that your real name isn't CrazyRay, and that you don't live in a place called "the woods.")

So ultimately you must have admitted it, and I'm hugely impressed with your honesty in doing that. I've always prided myself in being scrupulous about things like returning money to cashiers when they give me too much change and contacting merchants who fail to cash my checks or credit card slips. But $12K would be a real test for me, I can tell you. (I like to think I'd pass, but hope never to find out.) Honda should give you a medal.

How much of that $12k is for the engine and how much is for labor/extras?
