Question Was this bad for my clutch?

The past 2 days I have been doing some testing on my clutch. Well today Idrove along this long straight road with several small hills going up and down.

So before each hill I was at at 30- 35mph in 4th then I shifted to 5th right toward the middle of the small hill. I did this several times in a row maybe 3 or 4 until I hit the end of the road then did it again on a larger hill for a 5th time. I then was like oh shit did I put to much stress on my clutch......

So is this bad as a launch or something or am I just to worried? thanks!

Unless you didn't match revs well and you let the clutch parts slip past each other badly, the clutch is the last of your worries. Going up a hill starting in 5th gear at 35 mph, you should be more concerned about getting close to lugging your engine. What rpm did you start out at when you initially hit 5th gear at 35 mph? If the revs were low and you tried to accelerate up the hill, this is a high load, low torque situation. It's bad enough on level ground but to do it going up a hill just amplifies the situation. You probably worked your engine much harder than you did the clutch.

It is harder to turn the drive wheels in a taller gear than it is to turn the drive wheels in a lower gear, but then the engine doesn't make as much power or torque way down low either.

I don't know for sure if that is bad for the clutch, but I personally would advise againts being in 5th gear at 35-40 mph going up a steep hill as there is no point in doing so. Flat ground is one thing, but a steep hill is another.

Although I wouldn't do what you described in my car, I would think that doing a 4,500-5,500 rpm launch is worse tenfold.

yes I did lug engine a lil on one of the attemtps since I was at like 2k in 5th gear.

Its so hard not to lug your engine though in the s2k with the low torque. I do it sometimes now and then.

I never lug my engine. 2k is a little bit on the low side especially being in 5th gear on a steep hill. I could get away with 2,600 rpm's in 6th gear (48 mph) on FLAT ground not being anywhere close to lugging the engine. Like I said, a hill is another story.

I never redline or VTEC (maybe once a week) so I think my engines still pretty strong and has some to give

after doing some thinking, I think I'm just to paranoid with my s2k. I'm getting better but if this is the worst I have ever done to her then I'm sure itll last a long time.

I mean I never raced her, never launched, redline etc etc. I'm sure tons of other s2ks have seen crazy track days or street races and are in good shape!

I don't drive the S everyday, but when I do drive the S, it see's the higher profile cam lobes about 100 times at least, depending upon how far and how many miles I'm going

Can I ask why you never VTEC? I read posts like yours and shake my head. It is a car! It will break sometime... All cars will. So why not use the thing!? Nothing against you personally... I'm sure there are lots of Ferrari drivers out there who never take it past the first few thousand revs for whatever reason. I just don't see the point. If you wanted a car with the power the S has at 0-5000 revs then buy a civic or some other comparable economy car. The reason the S is special (apart from handling, looks etc) is due to its awesome ability to keep on revving and do it well. It is reliable. There are plenty of cars on this board alone with over 100k and many with track days etc
Just a few things to think about...
