Default badge removal blues....

I flossed the S2000 badge on the drivers side of my S2K, but there's a problem! After much work with a cleaner/wax, there is an obvious outline around the area that the badge was, and the outline is raised as if it's a coat of paint. Well, actually it seems like a layer of clearcoat, as a few small flecks of it came off as I was removing the glue, and it's clear.

Is this normal? Will it come out with more polishing, or am I going to be relegated to buying the black chrome badges to cover up this hideousness? I'm going to be pissed if this car has been repainted...

Sorry to hear that. I removed my emblems off my black s2k the same way. Did you use a heat gun or a blow dryer? I did not have that problem, but my paint is newer. MY01

Try having the car rubbed out. Usually when the paint is worked with an orbital polisher a few micro/nanometers of clear will come off as well. It may reduce the imprint and smooth out where the clear came off.

Good luck

jfys2k used dental floss to get the badges out, then bought a bottle of adhesive remover from hardware store (especially made for sticker removal, and its automotive safe) ...... then all it takes is patience.

The outline can't be anything but residue. The badge is applied after the car is painted and dry, so it can't be clearcoat. The glue they use on those badges is a bitch. You just have to work very hard to remove it. I recommend many applications of Zenit and elbow grease.

Ok, the glue is GONE... What's left is clear, hard, and extends to cover the whole fender - it is absolutely not the adhesive. At this point I'm tharting to think that the car was cheaply repainted, without being re-badged, and that's what I'm seeing. Anyone have any other ideas that I could look into?

Sounds to me like your car has been repainted!! I'd check on the panel for other signs of repair. I had the same experience a few years back with another vehicle when I tried to replace a sticker on my door and discovered it had been clearcoated over - none of the other stickers on the vehicle were though.

Yes, I agree that it may have been repainted. Examine the badge you took off for signs of over spray or masking. Did you buy the car new? If so, and you find signs of repainting, I'd be making an angry call to the dealer who sold it to you.

unless maybe the dealer applied some additional coatings? they would probably have charged if they did...
was the other side the same?
sounds pretty strange-
how many miles on the car when you picked it up?
