did the guy have insurance? looks like a bodyshop will cut off the outside of the door and weld on a new one and paint it to match. something similar happened to me.

cut it?.. why would the do that? Depending on the shop, they could push that back out and bondo it and repaint it.. or just simply replace it.. but cut it?..ionno

to do it properly the door skin would need to be cut off an da new one welded on. notice the creases in it caused by the impact. pushing the dent out and hammering the creases down or shrinking them with heat and then filling in with bondo really isn't the proper way to do it. you won't ever be able to push it out to what it was before the accident, you'd have to use large amounts of bondo, and bondo is only supposed to be used on very minor bumps. bondo shrinks over time and eventually you'll be able to tell that the door doesn't look right because of this.

The 'skin' wraps around the door frame and is welded. From the factory, it's real clean. However, whenever reskinning, the welds are clumpier, the skin has more wrinkles around the wrapped edges, and never has the true solid feel of an OEM door.

Argue for a full door replacement. Depending on the insurance company and what your body shop argues for on your behalf, you may actually get it. Sure the VIN tag won't be available on a replacement door, but at least it'll be OEM. My opinion is to have a clean door with no VIN tag(showing accident), rather than an original door frame with a new door skin. The welds give away the fact of a 'clean' car.

Sorry to see your car door like that. Argue for a new door and you can use the arguement that if the door is repaired the seal with the window and the convetible top might never be water tight. I think an arguement for a new door might be worth your time!

He probably hit you because from your pictures, you double-parked.

I hate it when people double-park - thinking that there car is so better then anyone elses that they require 2 parking spots.

I've seen $200K+ cars that park at grocery stores that parked just like everyone else.

To each his own...

It's a damn shame about your car. I feel sure the trucks owner is well insured and sick about this too. If that was a late model truck that hit the car the truck cost a good deal more than a new S2000.
