Don't buy a cheap intake, or even an expensive one if you live in an area that has very heavy rains.

In advance of flaming. Not one single person who says hydrolocking is not an issue has hydrolocked their cars. Visit the S. Florida forums and read some threads by people who have. No way 2 HP is worth the risk IMO.

Not that it rains much in SoCal,but we got torrential downpours for about a month and I came close a couple of times.....Not worth the stress....

if you're going for a cold intake, get the cheap one from ebay. same style as the aem, it comes w/ k&n filter. I know people will start spewin off, well so n so company did r&d etc etc etc. i doubt there's a big difference in performance between the aem n the ebay brand. I think its $50? as far as hydrolocking, dont drive the car through deep water, whether you ahve a cold intake or not! lol and as far as rain, just fabricate something to cover the filter. i still have my intake for more than 3 months n through lots of rainy weather here in fl, still performs like a champ. Use the money you save n use it for something more worth the buck, gears maybe? etc. my .02

I have an INJEN and am installing a bypass valve next week. Have drain hole plugged now with umbrella over intake. Will also install INJEN filter bonnet when it is released. It is supposedly a microfiber bag that goes over the filter (GORE-TEX type material) that allows air, but not water, to flow. Should fix hydro locking for me. INJEN rep said it would take over 1 liter of water directly into the filter to hydrolock our cars....most of the small stuff is evaporated off before it hits the manifold.

I bought an AEM V1 copy from Ebay with a genuine K&N filter for under $100, delivered. Sounds awesome, looks great and shouldn't cause me any hydrolock problems unless half the car is under water.

Easy deal--less than 2 hour installation.

Those 'membrane' fabrics that allow air but not water to pass only function properly when they are really clean to my knowledge, not to mention it'll restrict the airflow. Anyway, What do you think the INJEN rep is going to tell you?, "Yep this gizmo seriously increases the risk of hydrolock, don't buy it under any circumstances" Riiiigggghhhhttt.

But you guys do whatever you want. Plenty of people are running CAI's with no problems at all. If I lived in a dry climate I'd consider installing one. I often have to drive my car in heavy rain..
I recently had 26" of rain in 30 days here... no way I'm putting any CAI on my car unless it comes with a full motor replacement hydrolock gurantee (ask the INJEN rep about one of those, and let me know what he says)
Cheers, Mike

Edit: additional thought; this is at least the 200th "Which CAI is best?" thread I've read but I don't recall a single person showing definite dyno gains of over 5 hp with just a CAI. Pretty much within the margin of error +/- 2% IMO To me it's just not worth it. and I don't just mean purchase cost. All that being said I did go with the AUT replica of the Garage Defend cooling plate/intake seen here. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...T&f=5&t=274942
Let the begin.

I have the aem v2 and it sounds great. Cleans up the engine bay a lot and it screams in vtec.

I noticed an increase in throttle response and increase in power when it is very hot out. In terms of performance, dynoed at around 2-3 hp.

If I could buy another intake, probably go with the comptech icebox. (mainly for hydrolocking issues)
