Best exhaust for the s2k
Yes, some have posted they have it - but I am apprehensive to buy from Amuse, based on their poor delivery record, which does not give me comfort around backup for field problems, spare parts should something unusual occur, etc.
12whp is hard to fathom - I would like to see some others to ensure it is not a one-off tweak. Plus, I agree that a catback should not affect the A/F as it did; that 11.0 is pretty rich - I guess that it must be the WOT calibration? Leaning it out will provide a lot of peak HP, no doubt.
The Comptech has that MagnaFlow on a 4-cylinder tone - you either love it or do not.
I also thought the HKS sounded great on the sound clips, but have heard several reports that it actually was down on power. The SuperSprint also sound great, but that is a "fat and happy" situation.
I went with Mugen because of its heritage and design - straight pipe after the resonator, overall build qualioty, and the fact that Mugen knows a thing or two about Honda performance parts (little things like F1, F3, etc). Plus, they are well-supported compared to some of the other tuner houses (read Amuse).
I also like that Mugen did not represent itself as a it will fit the MY04 as in "we think it will", or "it can be made to", or "whatz a 2004?". They made a 2004 specfioc fitment for the hangers, and also went to a larger pipe outlet to acccomodate the 2004's large valence opening. Comptech also did that - tyat is a classy plus in my book.
At these prices, the exhaust should be made and fit perfectly, and should cosmetically match the specific model year for which it is intended. No apologies, no excuses.
But what do I know? - I could be wrong (a la Dennis Miller).

although the hks is said to lose hp, stock i ran a 13.8, with the hks i ran a 13.7. The hp loss, if any, is not that significant. But it sound amazing. The only other exhaust i like is the invidia. Exhausts are not meant to gain hp, they are for sound unless you have forced induction in which case it makes a big difference.
Here's another one for you to think about. Back Yard Special magnum stainless claims HP and torque increase of 5% +/- up to 6000rpm, and a slight drop off thereafter. So more low-end pop. I know a guy has one here and he swears by it. The dyno is in Japanese but you can get the gist: http://www.aerodyne.net/backyard/s2000.htm
