First time around was at 42K mi, broke some teeth from launching. I replaced it with the 4.56 when it came out winter '06. Then recently around 52K mi I cracked the housing mis-shifting from 6th to 3rd rather then 5th.

I would say both times would have to contribute to the six puck sprung clutch.

Positive side, I learned how to do a pumpkin swap in 3 hrs.
thats crazy man, i have a 6 puck too! I guess im the exception to the rule!

I just didn't even bother with it, I went and bought a whole new 4.77 differential assembly.

i'd say try the LE607 or its new replacement... or mobil 1 since they have been proven to work fine. never heard anyone say theyre using lucas. lucas additive is that stuff you see on the counter at kragens. i read that makes the oil more prone to foaming, and foam isnt good. didnt know lucas made their own oil though.

Puddy,

I'm no expert, but that sure does look like beautiful work.

Where the hell is Brooksville and how do I become your new best friend?

BTW, what is 80/90 Lucas? Better than the commonly used Mobil 1? If so, where do I get the Lucas? I'm about to do my first diff fluid change out . . . .
That is to funny "Where the hell is Brooksville"
That was on the front tag of my Mom's 57 Crown Imperal

I am in Florida mid state on the west cost, 40 miles north of Tampa

Lucas is a brand of oil that is readily available at Napa or most other auto parts stores. Nothing special about it other than it seems to work fine for me.
I recommend the additive because, it helps keep the rear a bit quieter especially with more aggressive gearing. I have not had a failure due to an oil issue using it and as long as you use a good GL-5 80/90 or straight 90w gear oil you will not either.
Even the Lubricating Engineering (LE) Rep told me that there is not much chance of a failure due to the oil it

Ha, I remember voting in that tread a few years ago. Can I change my vote now?

Mine started to whine, gradually louder over a 2 week period. I changed the diff oil and it looked alright, but the sound didn't change. I started looking for a new diff, but just kept driving as usual. On a downshift to 2nd at 45 it finally came apart. The pinion gear started spitting out teeth like a hockey player that just took a puck to the face.
