I have to note that the original poster (christiewarren) is from the United Arab Emirates, in case that slipped past other folks' attention. Could it be that there is only one Honda dealer in his home area, and that business is conducted differently there? Might the warranty be different than in US or Canada? The noted speed of 140 km/hour wouldn't put the engine above redline, even in 4th gear. With due respect, I remain concerned that there is additional relevant data regarding the conditions of operation at time of failure of which we are ignorant. Apologies to christiewarren for my suspicions - please clarify if possible other details (e.g., air temperature, reading of coolant temperature gauge, rpm's at time of failure)

I guarantee there are a LOT of HOnda dealeres in UAE- I had a frined from college that lived there and $$$ is no problem.

My last fill up practically paid for the lower end of your motor

Agreed too - you need to provide more information on the occurance of this to make any assumptions.

PS- how's the indoor ski place and Burj tower?

thanks for all your replies guys...

I have had her connected to the ECU, and they recorded 9300rpm, so it was over reveved. but WTF, this is a high performance, high rpm car. They could not give me a time and date when this happened......

when my engine broke, i was on the highway, NO gear changing, had beeen in 6th for like 100km's, how does it then blow.

PS so it was over revved at some stage previously, got like a hair line crack on the rod, then was week, and broke........

that does not make sense to me.

anyways, moving on

PS: i was in the markey for a CRF 450X, NOT happening NOW.
PPS: they in door slow is cool, Small though if u a pro boarder
PPPS: Burj Al Arab or Burj?
PPPPS: Burj is getting BIGGER and BIGGER

The over-rev could have happened at any time before the engine failure. Over-revving weakened engine components, which eventually failled.

Yes, the s2k is a high revving motor...but like every motor it has a limit. Can't blame Honda or the engine for that.

As I am shopping for a used S2000... Should I request the seller take the care to a honda dealership and report to me the high rpm seen? Good idea?

wow... an overrev for just 9300 rpms. It probably happened much earlier as these problems happen sometimes months after an overrev. Are you the first owner?

If you're not sure as to how you can over rev, it probably happened when you were in vtec, trying to shift to the next gear, and instead you went back a gear on accident. It sucks that you shot the rod with such low mileage on your car. I over revved once and estimate it to be just over 10K rpms (I have the higher 9K redline) which probably happened a year and a half ago. I now am running a turbo and the added stress still hasn't caused me to lose my motor so I just keep my fingers crossed.

Good luck Hopefully you can play dumb enough and maybe put the blame on a previous owner if their was one. If so, you might be able to get Honda to cover at least some of it, especially if you bought the car from THAT dealership.

I run a 9500rpm redline without any blown rods as well as many other people.

This engine can be taken to ~10,500rpms until you'll start to experience valve float.

He has an ap2.

I'm not sure I know of anyone regularly running an F22 with stock bottom end to 9300rpm.

^ A lot of them are taking it to 9K though. I think I'd stick to Spoon's/Hondata's suggestion of 8600 if I had an AP2
