Read this about the Z3 increasing in value and becoming a classic because of the Z4's styling. http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e85/f...=1265212&page=1

Personally, I don't like the Z4 and would not buy one, but I wonder if we are misunderstanding it. We are not the audience that it was aimed at. We have purchased the S2000 because of what it is, not as a reaction to the Z3 or Z4. Most of us would make the same choice again, S2000 over the Z3 or Z4.
BMW probably knows this and has aimed the Z4 at a slightly different sector of the market. There are things in the Z4 that are not available in the S. If these items are important, you have to buy a Z4 (as opposed to the S) to get them. I think that BMW's market segment values these things and highly values the BMW name and perceived status level. I expect that the Z4 will be very successful in that sector and that many people in that sector will like the styling. Not because it is good styling, but rather because it is a BMW.
Unfortunately, for much of BMW's target audience that is what sells cars.

Take away the bumper-car steering wheel and incomprehensible front end, I think I might actually give this car a nod.
It does look more futuristic than the s2000, but at the price of having strange proportions (The Buick front end lump mostly)
I like how the top stows away completely with the front edge of the top landing the right way to work as a cover (like the MR-2).
Starting price US$33K, but not with things I would want.

every time i see that car i absolutely can't believe that it made it to production. i don't know what the hell bmw was thinking. it looks fine for a concept car but it's unthinkable that it is actually on the road. Also, what's the deal with the price?? That's about 10 grand higher than i expected it to be. I don't know how many people are going to buy that over an M3...

I just drove one. It drove pretty nice. It was a fully loaded 3.0 model. It felt pretty quick and agile. The car over all is very nice with a lot of luxury. However, the car was stickered at 47k and for an ideally loaded 2.5 it is still over 36k I don't know if I could justify the cost! I am waiting for a 5sp 2.5 to come in with the sport package and I will test drive it. If it is nice I might consider buying it but its hard to justify the price. I would like to drive it and then a S2000 in the same day so I can get a feel for the similarities and differences. of course none of the dealers here have any S2000s that they will let you drive. I know the S2000 would kick it's ass on a track but for average daily driver I'm not sure!
