Unhappy bolt ons

i read in one of the post that the stock headers are better than aftermarket ones, is this true? Does this also hold true for the intake or exhaust? so wouldnt it be a waste of money to buy aftermarket bolt ons?

lets just say the s2k is close to maxed out from the factory. You'll be lucky if CAI + exhaust nets you 3-4whp. Its usually for sounds bolt ons. The only way to go for power is SC. Aftermarket headers can lose you HP and so can some exhausts. Tons of research out there Search is your freind.

another big advantage to CAI, Exhaust, and header is weight savings....

The stock exhaust (cat back) weighs in at around 50-60 lbs if I remember correctly, most of that being from the mufflers. A good cat back will be in the 20-25 lb range, unless you go single exit titanium which will be at the least 9 lbs.

Header will usually save you 10-15 lbs depending, and an intake, a few lbs. All together, if you get the right stuff, you could probably net about 15-20 RWHP. Some people have seen gains of up to 8 RWHP with just a good intake (PRM, AEM, J's, Mugen, etc...)

a well-designed exhaust system will make the most difference (in hp and weight saving gains).

Everything that has been said is true.

The S2K is tuned well from the factory. I/H/E will add some horsepower and torque, but not a lot for the cost (10-20hp). But, you can get weight savings in addition, which helps. Most who do add bolt ons do so for the looks, sound and "butt dyno" effect.

If you want more power, forced induction is the true way to go. However, some basic bolt ons will have some affect and will improve throttle response and mid-range. But the question is, "Is it worth it?"

Not necessarily true. I get a lot of my stuff used from others on this board. Good deals can be had every day. Spoon Sports exhaust = 25 lbs. lighter plus great sound plus more power. The price, $350 shipped. How can you say that's not a good deal and not worth it?

The bottom line is shop carefully and you can get some worthwhile parts for good prices.
