Book about the S2000
Many of you probably already know this, but there is a book out that's entirely about the S2000. I got it at Barnes and Noble the other night. It's called "Honda S2000" by Daniel Carney. I already have tremendous respect for the car from a technical standpoint (120hp per liter), and from a driving standpoint (got to drive one for a day...wish it was longer), but after reading this book, my respect is even deeper. You would not believe how many things they engineered or reenginered on this car just to make it the best it could be.
The book also shed light on why the top is electric and not manual. There are 2 reasons. 1 - they said it was awkward to try to twist around from in the seat and pop the top manually, and 2 - they said their competition (Z3 and Boxter) all had electric tops. They also said the electic motor only weighs 13 pounds, so it's not that big of a deal. As for the missing clock in the 00 model year...they said it was because they wanted the driver to be focused on driving and enjoying it, not worrying about time.
The book also gave the results of Honda's in house crash tests (I believe they are the same as the governments to make sure they will pass them).
For the the full frontal head on collision it received 5 stars.
For the offset iihs test it receieved a "Good" rating which is the highest score for that test.
For the side crash test it got 4 stars.
And Honda even hits their cars from behind at 35 mph to make sure they hold up! (they have pictures of all the tests in the book)
Well I won't rewrite the whole book, just wanted to share this with all of you.
happy motoring,
Rod
