Check the clutch adjustment. A simple rod attached to the pedal. You lossen a 12mm lock nut, adjust out play with lengthen or shorten rod, retighten lock nut.

While you are there under the dash, check the master cylinder for leaks. You'll see a drip waiting to drop from the end of the MC where rod pushes it. A common issue. New MC from Honda, an easy diy replace.

Next replace the clutch fluid and bleed. I bet old fluid is filthy and black. If still not good clutch action, try greasing clutch pusher attached to slave cylinder. You have to get under car and remove slave, just two bolts. Clean and polish the ball at end of rod, grease, reinstall.

If still not working well, could possibly be slave cylinder. But I bet clutch will feel great after just adjust, new fluid and bleed.

Be sure to check out the thread on what new owners should do for maintenance soon as they get their cars.

Good points, but once I decided it was a solid car it's hard to haggle when there aren't many options out there and the dealer knew it. I will fix the bolster, already found a how-to and although I didn't know a glass window was an option I'm not concerned because it will be mainly driven as a spare car with the top down.

Although the clutch didn't slip, it didn't feel wonderful either, it had a on/off feel, without much travel, is this normal?
Hard to say as what one is used to can really affect one's perception of the clutch on any car. You'd really to have to test drive several or have someone familiar with the S test drive for you to determine if it's normal.
I've driven many manual cars but this was my first S2000. I'll have to make some S2000 friends and borrow their cars.

Wow, thanks for the detailed info. I'll try your suggestions.

Who is the mysterious Billman you speak of?

Looks to be a very good find for the money The car is near 14 years old so some paint work is a given, I would not knock the bumper having a respray. I paid about the same for my 2000 S with 37k miles and it has had paint work on both front and rear bumpers. Enjoy the car and good luck with it

I had a S2000 exactly like this, absolutely perfect condition, with 85,000 miles. I'm the original owner. It had no spray anywhere on the car and the paint was almost perfect as it only spent maybe 10 nights outdoors in 13 1/2 years. Sold it in May for 12,000. If the lower miles was worth the difference, you got a good deal.

I got a car in similar condition to yours as well! Low mileage but like others have said above, it is a 14 year old car so some
paint wear here and there is expected. Those red seats look great in your car, enjoy your ride, one thing you might want to do
is upgrade your top to a glass top; about to do the retrofit on my car soon.

if you have a 00-01 with a plastic rear window do not put the top down when its cold outside. anything below about 50 will cause the window to crack and split

Ok, thanks for the heads up! Back in my miata days we cut a section of a swim noodle (the floating device) and stuck it in the fold to prevent it the plastic window from folding flat, it helped prevent cracks and exetended it's life.
