Now what should the first mod be?
Two ways to approach this ...

What characteristics of the car are you unhappy with?

... or, if you are not unhappy with any of the car's characteristics ...

What characteristics of the car do you like and want to enhance?

... The best mods are the ones that change the car in ways that YOU want, and I think you're the only one here who knows what's best for you.

What do you plan on doing with the car?

I think I know the previous owner of that car. The chances of another silverstone with red seats and especially with that wing from the area you bought it from is pretty slim. If I'm correct, that is ruexp67's old S2. I believe he just sold the car and upgraded to a nice looking vette. He posted about his time with the car and let me see if I can find that link.

Linky

Also, make sure you journey into the UMW Forums located Here. We would love to welcome a new owner and pretty sure Pete(ruexp67) would love to see his old car. He is a CO(community organizer), so we will still see lots of him aound the boards.

Where do you live? If it's somewhere like Florida, then make your first mod a good alarm.

Wow I think that might be his car. It sounds like it had a lot of problems. Do you guys think that should be something I should worry about? How many miles are on the new motor? The car over all says it has 20100 miles on it. I really enjoy the way it rides and handles.

Choungsgay, you said new engine do you know if it's a new ap1 motor?

I don't mind the sounds too much right now. I'm used to the stock radio in a jeep wrangler.

RED MX5, I'm not really sure what I want to do. I love the way it handles so far. I guess more power is always a plus. I plan on turboing it someday soon so I guess more basic or regular stuff like anything that can improve handling or give me a little added power. It'd be nice if I add something that it will work later down the line with the turbo. If I go with an exhaust it'd have to be able to work with the turbo. As far as an intake I'm ok with that since it's inexpensive. I've heard a lot of good things about the aem cold air intake.

What are some good sites to look at for aftermarket parts?

I would just drive the car as is. Then spend time figuring out what you don't like about the car. If you don't like the exhaust, then come to the forum and check out what options and opinions people have. No need to rush into mods imo.

Anyway, congrats on your new ride!

I have to agree with Ks320; I'd drive the car a while before deciding on specific mods.

I started out in '04 thinking I'd eventually go turbo, but wanted to wait until I was absoultely certain that I could go that way without putting the car's reliability at risk. I also thought I'd be completely reworking the suspension. My first mod was an AEM V1 CAI, simply because I'm an induction noise junkie, and the CAI's sound SO sweet as 9k approaches. As much as I like the extra power of FI, I *still* miss the sweet sound of my old V1. An intake isn't going to make much more power, if any, but they sound so sweet I think they are worth considering as a first mod. If you like induction noise as much as I do, there is no better first mod.

Next we lowered the car, but I won't go into that unless you're interesed in lowering. I like my drop, but this is a mod that is clearly not for everyone. Be sure you understand the downsides of any mods you make to the car, preferably before you make them.

I would strongly suggest learning the car well before deciding on suspension mods. The stock suspension is EXTREMELY capable, and every change involves compromises.

I wanted more feedback from my shifter, so when I got a chance to get one of the AxialFlow Engineering prototypes I jumped on it. Billet shifters are prone to buzzing, and are more suitable in a race car with solid bushings than in a street car, but I love the feel and don't mind the downsides.

Eventually I got tired of waiting for a dead reliable turbo kit and decided to go ahead and supercharge the car. I figured I could be waiting a year or more for all the turbo grimlins to be ironed out, and I was tired of waiting for a power adder. I may yet go turbo some day, but I like the way the centrifigual blower makes power so much that I may never upgrade.

At some point you'll want to take a hard look at the driveline. Decide how much power you want to make, and decide on the kind of tires you're be using. Power plus grip brakes drivelines at some point, and you're going to want to make some upgrades. Decide whether you'll be OK with a beafed up stock diff, or will need something more robust, and go ahead with the upgrade. Pick your gearing based on the power you expect to make. 4.44's or 4.56/4.57 gears are a nice upgread that will give you some extra punch while you save for the turbo. If you are not hard over on making big numbers and just want a nice boost in power, consider a centrifigual blower.

Changing the tires and/or wheels can dramatically change the characteristics of this car, so it is best to proceed with caution. Learn the car and know how the mods will change things before buying parts. Especially when it comes to things like the wheels and tires.

Anyway, if you like induction noise, I highly recommend starting out with a high quality, proven, unsilenced intake. Then just drive the car for a while and look for things that you'd like to change or enhance. Find a good tuner and make him your friend. Lay out a game plan, and work out a budget if you want to get the biggest bangs for your bucks.

LOL, check out the S2kI sponsor sites.
You can find lots of stuff using Google (search for things like "AEM" or "Comptech").
