Have an S2000 for the weekend. Pros and cons. Trying not to show a bias.

If you forget the obvious bios in his view, he brought up some decent points but I disagree with his take.

The S2000 does handle well. I don't thing the car was nervous but the driver was nervous instead! Maybe I will revise this take after a few dentist visits!

I can't argue that the car is impractical in heavy traffic. I am maddened when people are in front of me.

I found it kind of unusual than someone with a Porsche really side stepped peformance a bit. His commment about it reminding him of the old Porsche 911 was trying to put it down.

He should have mentioned that this car blows away the Boxster!

Personally I like the looks of the S2000 better but that is a subjective thing. I really feel a lot of people don't like the looks of the Boxster as much as the Porsche logo on the car.

pfb,

Please don't take this the wrong way because it is not a dig at you and I know that I am probably alone here but, you know what,

I couldn't care less what they are saying on the Boxster Board about the S2000!

So why did I look at this thread you may ask?

To post this response!

Actually coming from a Boxster owner, I think it was a great review. You have to figure we bought the S2K most likely for the reasons he didn't like it. While there are a lot of car bigots out there, there are some people who love cars of all shapes and sizes. I couldn't ask for a better response from a Prosche owner. The fact that the 2 cars, and all cars differ is what make it great. I remeber when I was a kid, I used to think why make all these models of cars? Everyone inthe world should drive a Countach! Funny how your view changes over time.

I like his review. I think it is fair and honest. I'd love to trade with an "S" for a weekend!

Having never driven a Boxster or Boxster S I can't comment on the comparision much. However, he seemed to get most of the points of why we drive it, he didn't get the big picture or at least he didn't reflect it. If I drove a Boxster S and came back here to tell you about it I would naturally prefer the S2000. If I didn't, it would be sitting on a Porsche lot.

I love my car for exactly the reasons he said. He has a different view and preference in what he wants a car to be and his review reflects it.

Good work and very observent on his part.

I think he gave a very honest review and it pretty much sum up what lots of unbias car fans would say.

I know it's been mentioned before but I can't get by the
18,000 dollar difference.I hear the s2000 is almost as good
in some respects, better in other and also very different.
I know, i couldn't have done anymore budgeting on a sports
car and here it is mentioned in the breath with a boxster s.
Not taking anything away from the boxster but I'd be
embarassed spending 40% more on a car and getting little to
show for it.Can anyone imagine what Honda could have done
with a list price of $50k or even $40k?I am a proud man!

remarkably accurate review.
i'm impressed.

of course we all disagree with his *conclusions* but each of us wants and likes a car for different reasons so to each his own.

Many a Porsche fanatic feels that they have tuned the excitement out of the latest breed of Porsches, specifically the 996 and the Boxster. The new GT2 is an attempt to get the power of the new Turbo (and more) without the docility. A true "bite you in the ass if you mess up" kind of car.

I didn't view it as a put down at all, as I'd rather have the unruly GT2 rather than the high-performance but incredibly-well-behaved 996 twin turbo.
