Ah, I see you guys found the thread. I was gonna come point you to it. See, there are reasonable folks all over the place.

Now excuse me, while I run outside to cover my car so my neighbors won't see it. I am so embarrased to have paid so much for it... Wait, but then how can I just "show" it if I have to hide it? I guess that only leaves the "go" part, so I guess I will just "go" back out to the track again for another great PCA event which seem to be crawling with fellow Boxster owners.

Just good natured ribbing, guys...

PS When I first saw the S2000 digital dash, I absolutely hated the look of it. I am definitely an analog gauge kind of guy. But then, as I thought about the nature of the car (needing to keep the revs in the right place), the functional benefits became more apparent. I still don't like the look, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it well. Honda stayed true to the vision and purpose of the car in all aspects. Function first. Which, I suppose, is exactly what they have been doing with all their cars for quite some time.

But then, ask me if I feel guilty or compromised 4-wheel-drifting my "GT" car through a corner. Nope.

Hi Boxster Boy

I had the same reaction to the S2000 dash when I first saw it. Then, after zinging to 9000 revs a few times, I came to love the digital tach. As you say, functional trumps pretty.

PCA has some great events. Why don't you guys invite us along for some twirling and scooting?

Drop by anytime.

Actually, our local PCA events are open to whomever wants to participate, assuming they don't fill up with PCA members/Porsche owners first. I assume that is the same all over; don't know. The PCA time trial I was at a few weeks ago had an S2000, a vette, a frequently-raced Civic with a full roll cage and an Integra Type R motor in it, and a miata. It was a hoot watching that Civic get up on 3 wheels in the corners. It was the kind of Civic with the really bulbous back end; almost Pacer looking.

I think the main limitation is advertising. The events are advertised in our newsletter (which is more of a magazine, locally) and on our website. I just don't think people who aren't in the club, or don't know someone who is, hear about them much. We had plenty of cars, though, so too many more and we might as well call it SCCA.

You fellas will have to forgive me for this, but I feel the only thing the S2000 is lacking in comparrison to the BS (that's Boxter S) is a touch of class. Having said that, I purchased this car to flog...not to get marks for class. The review was pretty spot-on, but as mentioned before, the S2000 gets better and better once you get used to it. Someone needs to give this fella an S2000 for a week and I'm certain several things in his review would change. I could have purchased a BS, but the S2000 fits my driving style better. Good post.

How many Boxster owners would love to participate but are shut out by the rollbar extensions and/or hardtop rules?

Our region must be "soft" on this, because we aren't enforcing the 2" rule, at least on TT's and AX's. And I don't think we did at the DE a few months back. So no one is excluded so far. Then again, I don't think they have EVER had a roll-over at an event, either.

With that said, I asked our group about getting a harness and was told in no uncertain terms that they would NOT recommend getting a harness before adding in the roll-bar extension. The concern was that if you rolled with a harness and no extension, you couldn't shift your body, thus making your head the second contact point for the car (along with the windshield).
