Break in notes
First of all, nobody has boosted my new toy. I just have a few questions and comments about the break-in period. I have 500 miles on it, and I'm anxiously awaiting the moment when I can wind this little motor up.
Q: What is the real break-in recommendations for a 2003? I have heard many minor variations (6K for 1000 miles, 5.5K for 600, 5k for 600...)
Q: Will the tires get any better? I know it takes a while to scrub off the mold release oils and the dealers ArmorAll concoctions, but they still seem awefully slippery to me. If it doesn't get better, I'll be replacing these Potenzas with PilotSports.
Q: What are the recommended tire pressures front & rear for track and street use? I feel lots of throttle steer right now, and I wonder if the fronts may be a little soft at 27 lbs.

wait 600 miles until you go past 5500 rpm. after 600 miles, you can go to redline if you want...but i waited until ~1000 miles. after 600 miles, you can definately vtec though. don't baby this motor too much(like never vtec) since you need to 'exercise' the motor. do lots of engine compression braking, this helps seat the rings. do this during the initial 600 miles...on the highway select 5th or 6th gear and take the rpm up to 5500 rpm. suddenly let go of the gas and let the engine slow the car down by itself. just make sure no one is behind u when u do this.
as they break in, the tires should get much better. my tires stick like glue.
32 psi is recommended. i go with 32-34 psi, its ok.

Razor, what do you do for a living? Your posts are always so knowledgable.
Hey, should I be concerned that I'm 4 weeks into this car and 2500 miles and I'm down to 2 X's above low on my dipstick? Is my engine burning oil?

I'm not Razor, but he's one of out midA owner and he works in Honda dealer, get it?
You can go ahead and rap it, oh sorry, rav it up after you've passed 600ml. Just remember, never VTEC before you see 3 bars of temp, never down shift if you think it's going to bounce over red line, check you oil "everytime" you fill up the gas! it'll continue to consump oil till 120k or so, after that you may switch to full synthetic.
About the tires, check and see if you still have spring spacer in place. If so, remove it before it kills you. Check you tires balance, sometime it came out-of-spec from dealer. If you like to take a turn in high speed, you might wanna do the "search" to find UK spec for balance your tires, but you'll lost you tread life in exchange.
S-02 that come with the car is one of the stickies tires on the market for max- performance street use, lots of owner never changed to after market rims and tires because of this reason. It should be something worng in some place else, if you feel that the car is not suck to the ground, check and make sure.
Enjoy driving. First 600ml is the longest trip in any S owner's life, IMO.

I hope that the "put oil in the d*** car" was just a good natured ribbing.
I'm SURE that it is the FIRST thing that Dave did. His question was whether this is cause for concern. That was pretty clear (though not stated) in his post. I know that I would have been concerned if it happens to my 2000 (I only have 200 miles on it at this point), but now I'll know to just keep an eye out and be ready to refill.
