No worries. I'm pretty clueless sometimes and just beginning to learn about all this stuff - but I'm no moron. Of course, I just put oil in it. Castrol GTX - one quart. Weird thing is...I checked the oil again and now it's slightly above the High line. (like about one "x" worth) I thought it'd take a full quart. Tomorrow I think I'll bleed out a little till it's right at the "H".)

As for breakin it in, I let the engine compression slow the car down from 5500-6000 to 3000 a few times on the freeway today. How often would you do this to seat the rings? When should I generally consider my rings to be seated?

MagicDave, if it's only 'slightly above full', don't worry about it.

Here's my thoughts on break-in: Drive below 5,500 RPMs for the first 600 miles (i.e., no VETC

AFAIK 1 X on the dipstick is 100ml. I use a measuring jug to put in the right amount, then guesswork if the level is between marks. HTH.

[B]About the tires, check and see if you still have spring spacer in place. If so, remove it before it kills you. Check you tires balance, sometime it came out-of-spec from dealer. If you like to take a turn in high speed, you might wanna do the "search" to find UK spec for balance your tires, but you'll lost you tread life in exchange.

Compression braking would not necessarily "break in" an engine any different than just driving the car.

i personally let the car sit overnight and check the oil first thing in the morning. this gives the oil a chance to drain to the oil pan. whenever i check the oil when the car is 'warm', i get false or misleading readings. thats just me though.
