break-in period by # of miles?
I remember someone mentioning about varying the max limit of the RPM range during the break-in period
ie, first 300 never go above 5k
and then every 100 miles after that, go 1k more or something
At the end of the break in period, the stock hp and tq were a bit more than the avg s2k...
Anyone have that info handy??????

i think it is BS since everyone has "theories" about breaking in an engine. I believe the factory - don't VTEC it until 600 miles and don't accellerate hard/brake hard.
I think that there aren't enough cars or controls to conclude that any break-in procedure is better than another. If you took two cars off the line and dynoed they wouldn't have the same power - there is always variation. I sometimes like to think i got the "abnormally" fast one, but I probably didn't

...........
The owner's manual is pretty explicit about it - don't exceed 5500 rpm for the first 600 miles. Period. I will obey, because I am afraid not to. Of course my car was originally going to be bought by someone else, who cancelled out for personal reasons. I can't help what may have happened in those first 50 miles, but I will remain careful. It will only be a bother for another week or so.

It would be easy enough for Honda to program their ECU to limit engine redline until the break-in period has passed.
I guess they want people who test drive the vehicle to be able to experience VTEC.
Beware buying a test driven vehicle!
