Default Break in Time, more like Burn in time???

Have had my S2K for two days now, and I'm sticking to the break in standards, but I still get a funny smell.

Doesn't seem electrical, and its different than the coolant smell. Not oil by any means.

I worked at a shop for a couple of years, so it is weird to me. Any ideas?

Some manufactorers coat the engines with cosmoline as a protection against corrosion which maybe what you are smelling. It also maybe just the new parts in the engine or LEV system that is breaking in and burning off some residue.

Its normal for your car to have that smell. I have 2300miles on my "S" and I still get the smell after a good run. Nothing to worry about.

Happy driving

Yep, I think all of my cars had that burn off smell. It makes you want to check all of the fluids like crazy when you first get the car. There is also the possibilty of a plastic bag or something that may have wedged itself on a exhaust pipe.

This place is great, thanks for all the input. I only have 100+ miles and looking forward to many more. It's nice to know big brother or sister is out there to lend a helping hand. I'll check the exhaust also. Thanks again.

Also, if you got some rust proofing done, it may also be burning off of the exhaust.

I noticed the smell too. I didn't drive the car hard as I was following break in standards. I have had my car for 3 weeks now. I now have 1200 miles on it and I believe the smell has gone away. The only smell I hope doesn't go away is .....THE NEW CAR SMELL *love it*
