burning smell from the rear brakes?

Default burning smell from the rear brakes?

anybody else have this problem?

nope, nothing new. i have about 6k miles on it right now. been noticing a burning smell and i think it's coming from the rear brake/tire area. thought it might have been clutch at first but the smell seems to be coming from that region.

Better bring it in, or pop it up on a lift and have a look. If you have a rear jack, try jacking the car up (in neutral) in the rear and see if you can turn the wheel by hand without too much effort. If the brakes are partially engaged, you won't be able to. I'm pretty sure that even with the Torsen differential, you should be able to do this.

Not positive though.

think i found the problem. there's some black stuff, looks like tar/grease/oil on my exhaust piping. pretty sure the heat is cooking it, creating a nice sweet burning smell.

I think that's from the exhaust. after i drive my car hard, i can smell that too. My car si fairly new, has about 3300 miles on it.

You're right, it acts just like a regular open diff when both tires are off the ground.

For future info, the clutch has a rather distinctive smell when its burnt. Think incontinent cat

Yeah, that smell is unique, for sure, ei... That's a smell you really don't want to get too cozy with. Burning brakes also have a unique smell, although I haven't had the pleasure of being around any of those new carbon-ceramic rotors to see what they smell like. Anyone driving an Enzo out there?!

ttb, glad you found your problem. Try some Dawn or some other grease cutter (maybe some bug/tar formula) to get that off your exhaust (when it's cool that is! ).
