Default A burning smelll

Hi guys I was hoping someone could chime in and help me diagnose what is wrong with my car. I have a 04' that I bought brand new with 18,000 miles on it, all maintenance have been kept up to date with the exception of the differentials that were supposed to be done I believe at 16k miles (this will get done very soon).

I don't know what is causing this but every time I am driving, there is a very faint smell of something burning, it smells like it is coming from the rear. The other day I looked under the car and found a plastic bag stuck to some piping underneath the car, I thought this was causing the smell, but I've removed the plastic bag but the smell is still evident.

Would this smell be because I am late on the differentials?

Thanks

There might still be molten plastic on the piping. I have had this happen to me, and it stunk for quite some time.

Funny, this just happened to me last night. The smell is awful. I took the car to a shop and had them scrape and torch the plastic off. They said it will still smell for a while. Also, the stupid lettering from the plastic bag will forever be scribed across my cat. Sigh.

So I shouldn't have anything to worry about? It's just plastic that was stuck to the piping that's causing the smell? It's not a very strong scent or anything, it's just annoying and worries me. The plastic bag that I removed was on there pretty good...

It'll eventually go away.
I wouldn't worry too much.
