Is the Button fun, or just a gimmick?

If the starter button is accidentally (or on purpose) pushed _after_ the engine is started, will the starter be engaged again?

In other words, is the starter button smart enough to not engage the starter if the motor is already running???

This has already been answered in another post, I believe:

Apparently nothing happens unless you hit the button while depressing the clutch again. Then you get the standard grinding noise from the starter.

If it wasn't for that separate starter button, the BMW Z8 would only be worth $40K. We get the button without paying the extra $85K!

i think the button is one of the special feature of the car. Everyone amazed when i pust the button..
funny story.
One time i was at a hand-car wash. This one guy moved the car, turn it off and can't figure it out how to start the car again. I sat there pretending not to see anything. He sat there for 5 mins tried to turns the key, pull the brakes, turn on the light, open both door, everything beside pushing the button. A few mins later my car was surrounded by a group of carwash tech, about 5 guys in all. Finally they figure it out. I actually time it, it took them approx 8 mins to get the car running. Common now! its said ENGINE START on the button. Everytime i stop by that car wash, they always looks at me and smiles.

YoungS2k, that's a great story. Thanks!

Anyone else have a story similar to this concerning the uniqueness of the S2000?

Actually, the day I took delivery of my Stook, I went over to visit a friend immediately. He has a 2 year old girl who was sitting on his lap in the drivers seat while the engine was idling. Without warning, she reached out and hit the start button: GRRRRRRRRIND...

What a way fror my new baby to enter the world!

Ron

All the accessory buttons become second nature and fall readily to hand after a while. The start button becomes second nature, and I would miss it if it were not there.

Hmm...what happens if you press the start button when the engine's already running? Does it just not do anything?

the 1973 honda Z600 coupe had a start button too, I drove this car once, and it's definitely my next automotive purchase (or an Aston Martin Lagonda 1979)
