Buy a dd or cr?
Hey guys i'm trying to figure out what I should do. I race solo 2 (autocross) and have about 18-20k worth parts on my ap1. I only invested about 13k though because I brought most of them used.
I own a 2000 s2000 with 126,000 miles. It's black with 0 dents and no scatches at all. If I was to take all my parts off, put it back to 100% stock (I have everything to do so) what do you think the difference would be if I tryed to trade it in for a cr?
The other option is to just make the ap1 my race car and use the $8000 or so I would have saved up to buy a beater.
cr-
most exspensive intial investment (might require a small loan)
Only one insurance payment
have to drive around on coilovers (jrz's)
could buy another dd after the cr is paid off
dd-
cheap to fix
no loan
2 insurance payments
wouldnt be driving around my race car

If you have a chance to get a low mileage CR, I would go for it. You only live once man. Go look at the NADA trade in value of your s2k, go try to find a CR you would like, then see how much you would have to owe. If its something you think would be okay to do and wouldnt mind a slightly rougher ride, do it.
CR. These cars were made to drive not park in a garage. Complete waste of it imo. DD ing this car a few years now and love it. Was what got me out of bad at my last job so I could go drive it for the 45 minute commute!
CR is really not much of a step up though. Better off just getting a newer AP2 especially since you are planning to change suspension out and all.

I say get the DD. Insurance on my 93 civic is like $125 for 6 months.
I use to DD my s2k everyday and had the mentality that I bought this car and I should enjoy it everyday. Then as years went by I found that I want to keep this car forever (this might change of course). So I decided to get a DD.

Buy a (my) CR
Really consider what you're doing though. The reason I'm selling my car is while the CR is the most hardcore stock S2000 available, I'm looking to go more hardcore (semi-dedicated race car). If you think you want a dual purpose car - a CR might be the perfect fit. The suspension is less comfortable day to day than an AP1, but more comfortable than most aftermarket suspensions. But since it was designed as a complete package from Honda, it can still compete with aftermarket. (Part of the reason I initially bought my CR was because of it won A-Stock Nationals in 08 on stock shocks...not something I'm capable of but it's nice to know that the car is capable).
That being said, I like having a DD because of where I live - urban area with almost only street parking, crappy roads, high car theft rate, and snow/salt. The CR doesn't shine in that environment.

Get a DD, and keep the ap1. Guys he said he'd turn his ap1 into a race car, which I assume means it would be tracked. So all this "meant to be driven" crap is irrelevant. To people who race their cars, you daily driving your s2000 I'm sure seems like a "complete waste of it."
