buying a S2000 from a smoker
I'm looking for an S2000 and have found one that is really nice low miles except the owner smoked in the car. If this was a smoke free car it would already be in my driveway. Some detail shops say they can get rid of the smell while others say it will always be there. Does anyone have experience with this. I wouldn't sleep in a hotel room that smells like smoke so why would I accept a car that smells like smoke.Does anyone have an opinion or a solution. Also how much does this devalue the car.
i smoke in my car and i have people who get in and say all they smell is leather...can you noticably smell the smoke? because its pretty hard for that smell to get trapped in a convertible...and i must say even though i smoke, that stale smoke smell makes me gag so if i ever got in my car and smelled that smell, id quit on the spot lol
Smoker here too, though mainly with the top down. After a day or two the smell always leaves, and I've never had any complaints. Additionally, there are many odour neutralizing products out there that you can use to sanitize the smell once you buy the car. I wouldn't let it stop you, personally.
smoker...
Mine never smelled, even with the HT. My girlfriend is legitimately allergic to smoke and she never noticed it. There isn't really any material in the S to hold the smoke smell otehr than the carpet so unless they never ever rolled the windows down I wouldn't sweat it.

I can almost always smell smoke in a smoker's car... it's like smokers get partially immune to the smell. Would probably be a deal breaker for me in most instances. I'd be pissed if someone lit a damn cigarette in my car.
If you smoke, don't use the recirculation feature on the AC. This will keep smoke out of the cabin filter and you will never smell smoke. I don't and no one I know has ever mentioned that they smell smoke. Maybe just being polite? I would describe the smell in my "06 as being a new car smell tinged with the current "Christmas Tree" deoderant I'm using.
If you do buy the car, you can do a few things:
- remove the seats, and shampoo the carpet
- clean and condition the leather seats while they are out of the car
- replace the cabin air filter, maybe spray some lysol into the system while its running and the filter is out
- hand scrub the inside of the top with a cleaner
- take some fresh ground coffee, wrapped in some paper towels and secured with rubber bands, and leave them under the seats after its all back together

^^Good advice. It will all honestly depend on your sensitivity to the smell. If you are overly sensitive to that smell, then itmight be a deal breaker unless you are confident you can get rid of the smell. My wife is part bloodhound and can smell a fart from a house away so I know she would never take a car that was used by a smoker.
Im a smoker. I just never smoke in the s2k. Ill pull over and have a cigarette (I know it sounds kind of stupid,) but no smoke has seen the interior of my s2k. And when I do pull over to have a smoke, the rest of the trip must be top down from the smell in my clothes on my fingers and what not.
