Buying a S2K in S. Korea... Advice Plz
Hello Netizens....
My company just moved me to Seoul, Korea about 3 months ago... I've been shopping for a car, and I've narrowed my options down to a few cars... one of those being an S2K... I've looked at 3 models so far.. and 2 of them were total junkers...
1. had been in 3 major accidents and had major components replaced (probably would have been considered Salvage in California)... Luckily, my cousin, who also owned an S2K recognized that car from the S2k club in Seoul.... of course the bastard who owned it tried to pass it off as acccident free
2. white S2K... once again claimed it was accident free.. when I drove 2 hours to go look at it.. it was clear that the body panel paint didn't even match
....
So the other day, I drove to look at a 3rd S2k... black, nicely tuned (except for exhaust, sounds like a jet plane)... owned by a student studying to become a mechanic... it was nice, but now i've become very weary and something he told me kinda is bothering me...
He says the left front fender and door were vandalized and someone had kicked them IN... he hence had them straightened and fixed... i'm afraid he might have been in an accident and is trying to cover it up... the welds inside the door well and engine bay seemed factory... but i'm no expert...
there's no such thing as carfax or anthing like that in Korea... how can I check if his story is legit? the car drove straight.... and if it was in a major accident, wouldn't he have to change out the panels???
Please help!!!
ps... most s2ks in korea are right hand drive... gettting use to the indicator and wiper controls on the opposite sides takes some getting use too

Just wait for the right one.
Just do yourself a favor walk or use public transportation. Trust me.
I am from Korea.
For those of us who aren't from Korea, I'm sorry that there isn't much we can do for you. I have no idea how you can get real information about your target cars, jonomo.
Is there some kind of better business bureau in S. Korea? Maybe they can help steer you in the right direction.
Good luck, man.

Ha!! this is the first response I ALWAYS get...
"Just take a bus..."... well.. to that I say NO...
why not just drive a Dodge Neon in the US???
Its passion.. and passion require sacrifice....
I've lived a total of 4 years in korea, 1 year in
Tokyo, 1 year in Paris.... paris and seoul are
not the most car friendly places... but people
still drive nice cars....
If your happy with the subway or bus, then fine,
more luck to ya...

Do you like to drive only the 1st to 2nd gears throughout the day and spend 2 hours to move around just about 20 miles in the city?
Passion? Sure you would like to call that. I would say it is more close to sensless desire. Looks like you need more luck than I do.

Try to park that thing on the street. I would love to laugh at your sweating face.
