Buying a S2K in S. Korea... Advice Plz
Last I remember, the import tax buying a new vehicle over there is ridiculously high. Have you considered buying a new or used S2K in the US and have it shipped over. Not sure what the logistics of that would be (tax, customs, insurance, etc), but it could be something to consider. Perhaps your company has a program that may pay for a portion of the shipment?
I'm pretty sure American service members over there can sometimes have their vehicles shipped over by the government. Sometimes they sell these on the local market. Perhaps there's an S2K driving GI over there willing to make a deal.
Or, as someone mentioned, just wait until the right one turns up. This could take awhile, though, since the import tax discourages people from buying anything but Korean autos... maybe that's changed.
Other concerns beyond traffic include finding a reputable mechanic and body shop since, as you are aware, unless you're very lucky you *will* be getting hit.
Good luck to you.
And just to re-iterate what you've already heard... I wouldn't drive an S2K over there. I'd develop an ulcer.

just use the car at night when going to clubs, having fun, etc... during the day take the train.

Do you like to drive only the 1st to 2nd gears throughout the day and spend 2 hours to move around just about 20 miles in the city?
Passion? Sure you would like to call that. I would say it is more close to sensless desire. Looks like you need more luck than I do."
Sweat? its called airconditioning... try valet parking buddy.. most places in Korea have it now... maybe i'll see your busted up sweaty face valeting my car in betweeen your l000ser english 'teacher' jobz... haha
Driving in the city? try escaping to the suburbs or the country side for the weekend.. its enjoyable...
Sensless desire vs passion? What's the difference??
Listen dood.. if youre fine with taking the bus and driving some busted up hoopty.. then that's good for you... but dood, i Just wanna have a fun car that I can take out from time to time... so just get off my back and go back at being angry at something else...
You tell 'em, jonomo!!!I guess the only "negative nanny" point I'd add is that I hope you're not the type of person who worries about your car a lot. I think the problem with having an S in an urban environment is just how it affects you. So, if you're not a worrier (and damn it, I still am even after 4 years), go for it.
