Default Calling all '06 and newer owners (VSA) question:

How intrusive is the system, does it cut throttle much? I've got a similar system in my car, and while I typically leave it disengaged, when on, it doesn't intervene until I've started a bit of a drift. It's highly unintrusive. I've read the Honda technical description, but curious how the S2k's system works/feels as I'm looking to buy a pre-owned one.
Thx!

You can turn it off in 3 seconds. You can still hold a slide with constant throttle and a good deep steering angle if you wanted to, although if you're going for that I'd just as quickly assume that you'd want it off anyways. You can still go absurdly fast w/o it intruding, but don't expect to be showing off any mad tight jdm drifting skills with it on.

With my winter tires still on it cuts throttle coming out of a corner at medium speed. With the Star Specs on I have yet to get it to engage and I push the car through 5+ roundabouts every trip to/from work at high speeds (when there's no traffic). Overall, I'd say it's not intrusive at all with summer rubber.

Anytime it kicks in, it is saving me. I leave it off for track driving, but it will allow for some slip angle. It wont kick in unless you're going to lose the rear. It'll kick in faster than I can correct, if it is on.

Agreed with the above. You can push as hard as you want...it only cuts in when you lose grip.

Socal's been having a lot of rain, and my rear tires admittedly are very bald (i have newer tires sitting at home, but want to wear these down more). It's kicked in a few times there too (mostly going straight when I hit a patch of water on the freeway).

Overall, it's been more of a plus than a negative. Besides, having the ability to turn it off with a button press makes it a non-issue...i have my fun when I want to, otherwise it stays on.

I don't understand why everyone votes that it isn't intrusive, but then goes on to say that it comes on anytime a tire slips even a little. That is the definition of intrusive. I voted that it is intrusive, but I don't consider that to be a bad thing. Even on summer tires (I have star specs) you can make it come on out of any corner with a little to much throttle, I even have it come on fairly often accelerating in a straight line. In the end it really doesn't matter. It's there when you need it, but it's easy to turn it off on track days.

Let me clarify.

It will let you hold slip angle, e.g. WOT at ~7-8 degrees slip steady state turning. This is ideal for turning. If the rear were to go beyond this, initiating a spin, VSA will kick in and save the car.

Holding a slip angle is not the same as wheelspin. The LSD has roughly a 6:1 multiplication on torque. If you have wheelspin, you've lost grip.

If you have it coming on in a straight line, either you're shifting abusively, or something is wrong and you're losing grip.

I don't think its that bad. I've autocross with it on by accident. Didn't cut in during my run but I'm a noob so I wasn't pushing crazy hard though I was driving pretty aggressive so I would say its not very intrusive

Here's your problem. You're not driving right. "I can make it come on out of the corner with too much throttle" here's the key, you're using too much throttle. You went in too hot, had to use too much steering angle, got too much of a slip angle, added too much throttle, and bingo VSA. VSA will never stop you from driving fast properly. If you take a corner right, you shouldn't be using the cars slide to come out.

As far as being intrusive in a straight line, you either need to learn how to shift, get new tires, fix your alignment, or you're talking about a WOT pull in which case... why would you have it on? Even then you shouldn't be breaking traction shifting in a straight line. You're likely mixing up the feeling of the CDV/PP, and if it is infact VSA... read above.

I'm the one guy (so far) that voted not very. Sometimes it surprises me when it turns on. I wouldn't say every time it turns on, it's saved me - but it has definitely kept me from having to save myself. I always have it off for track and autox (if you don't, you're doing it wrong). I leave it on the street unless I need to make a U turn.
