can fit brake pads on rotor?? help...
Hey my back brakes just went and i was going to change them this afternoon, ive done several brake installs in my life and the last was a while ago but i dont know if i am forgetting a step or not but i put the back side pad in and there is not enough room to fit the front side pad. I cannot get the caliper to contract, i dont know if i am forgetting how or if my caliper is shot, the brakes did get pretty bad before i changed them just because my rotors took forever to come in. Is my caliper shot or how do i get it too contract so the two pads will fit around the rotor??? help would be greatly aprecialted !!!
More than likely you need to push in the piston on the caliper. Some people use a C - clamp or a very large pair of plyers. If that is not it confirm that you got the right pads. I did not read close enough . . . I stand corrected . . . as I thought he was changing fronts as they are the first to go. Yes the backs do need to be screwed in.
Pushing the piston into the caliper won't do it. On rear brakes, you have to screw the piston in. This is because of the self-adjuster for the parking brakes. Be sure the peg on the pad lines up with the groove in the piston.

OK, now that I have your attention. The rear pistons on the S2000 calipers get retracted by screwing them back into the caliper. You can use a standard 6" 3/8" extension in a ratchet to do the job. No socket, just fit the square end of the extension into the center of the X and turn clockwise until it's properly retracted.
There is a special tool available that fits into the X but it's really not necessary.
