Can the S2000 Still Run With a New Miata?
#2
As I mentioned in the thread I started yesterday, the fact that the S2000 remains a benchmark by which the Miata is still compared to after more than a decade and a half is just another testament to what a great car the S2000 is.
One more comment: my wife and I experienced first hand the rising prices enjoyed by S2000s on the used car market today (much to the dismay of our savings). I'm not really sure how well Miata's are holding their value by comparison.

The S was never meant to be a drag racer. It was not designed to move in a straight line.
New vehicles today bristle with computers acting faster than humans can, with instantaneous multi-wheel electric drivers with huge torque reserves. The S2000 is a very different animal.
Often times when there is a significant shift in technology, the last generation of "old" technology is the best of that era. I doubt I will ever see another NA, rear wheel drive, manual transmission, sweet convertible like this beautifully designed and engineered S in my remaining lifetime.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about a new Miata when it pulls up to me at a stoplight. If I wanted to drag race I wouldn't have gotten the S2000. If I did want to race, I would be more worried about the average v6 family sedan these days.

The S is a fun car to drive and when it is all said and done I would prefer that over the Mazda and that is just my opinion but to me the S looks really good til this day for its age especially with a nice wheel set up (NONE STANCE).
