Also ABS and traction control are designed for the average driver. When we go on the track we always turn off ABS and traction control as it can cause your car to go out of control. Especially the traction control. Traction control doesn't allow you to throttle steer the car and ABS doesn't allow you to lock up the tires when you are in a situation where you have to lock up to go straight and not hit something.
It's best for the inexperienced drivers to learn on a track or controlled environment. Spend a day at driving school and you will be much more humble about your driving skills and have much more respect for the instructors and older more experienced drivers.

Here in SoCal (some of the highest insurance in the country), it only costs us about $850 a year for the S. That's being old folks, multi-car discount, $500 deductible.
Insuring my 16-year old son on our '95 Accord is an extra $1500 a year, still not horrible (except when you add up the insurance for all the cars and get the annual bill!).
