Default Car break in/Possible Theft Attempt

So I haven't ran my car at any events since I ran a track day last November. Today was the first autoX of the season for our region. I parked my car last night outside my house(downtown urban area w/parking on the street) at about 8:45pm. I wake up this morning, get my magnetic numbers, tire pump, pressure gauge, helmet, and rain jacket and head out to my car for the first time to drive it in anger.
Unfortunately, the only anger to be had was mine when I saw what happened. My driver's side door was pried or kicked as if someone were trying to get to the door lock wires. Nothing inside was stolen (glove box was locked). I left some spare change in the cupholder, and it was still there this morning. The only mods on my car are the modifry GBO and MUZ floor mats. Thankfully, they didn't take those. The weird thing was the plastic panel protecting the wires on the passenger side. He/she/they got in, ripped that off and tried to get to the wires under the dash on the passenger side. I'm not sure why, but I'm guessing they tried to hotwire it somehow.
Even stranger, there were a couple of spots of red liquid that looked like blood on the driver's side window and door handle.
Has anyone else had an experience similar to this?
--If so I'd like to know. Please do not post how the thieves could have been successful or what they did wrong in the forum. We don't need to give these guys tips.

Car theft is not much of a problem were I live even though break ins from people trying to steal stuff in cars happens a good bit.
I hope the police can catch these guys, but without witnesses or finger prints I think it's a long shot.
Looks like I'll just be watching the autoX today. My g/f drives a 08 Subaru Imprezza (non-wrx). I'll see if she'll let me do some fun runs in her car to cheer me up.

That sucks, but it sounds like the thief got just as hurt as the car, and at least they didn't get anything. As for the wires under the pass. dash, I have no idea what they were going for - your air conditioner maybe ? Where do you live?

He'll be lucky if they come out to take the report in person; he'll probably have to just phone in the police report.

If possible please do not street park the car. Although old, the car still attracts
a lot of thieves. Also be prepared that the cops will not do anything they dont care. They know you have insurance so they will just give you a report. When my car was broken into the thieves left a boat load of prints all over and a pair of broken sunglasses and the cops didnt do anything.

Isn't the ECU under the dash on the passenger side? He could have been trying to get the ECU or ?maybe? trying to disable the imobilizer?

You'd think if he was smart enough to know which wire to go for the car would be gone. But who over the age of 10 would just start touching wires together under the dash in an attempt to jumpstart. I'd guess that there are hundreds of wires under there.

Good luck with insurance.

Good luck getting the cops to do anything more than take the report. They're worthless in situations like this.

I had my Subaru vandalized in the parking lot of my apartment building back about 5 years ago. Not only was my car vandalized, but several others in the parking lot were as well. There was a giant handprint right on the side of the vehicle that most certainly could have been used.

When I phoned it in, they flat-out told me "Unless there is a body next to the car, nobody is coming out for this."

Sorry to hear about your car.
