Use your hands. The high speed behavior you were describing concurs with high pressures in the rear tires. 40 cold is really high for S02's, on a long drive that number will increase significantly. Other possibilities include unbalanced wheels, or a out of whack alignment. Wind could also be a factor but you'd know if that was the case pretty easily.

You've got way too much air in there.
I got some tires put on my car and not even a mile down the road it felt like a wheel was about to come off of the car. They put the tire's recommended pressure, and not the car's.

Is it a real bitch to put more negative camber on the front wheels, cause I want to do this?

For stock tires, I'd try 35psi front COLD / 33psi rear COLD.

Manual says 32 all around. I would start there and tweak as you see fit.

FYI, at least on my race-compound tires, cold I was running 38PSI in the front, but HOT, they raised to 44 psi...

So, not that S02s are the same, but is yor 40psi cold, you could be really running ~46psi (give or take) hot... That seems way high for S02s.

$.02,
Aaron

40 psi is probably a bit much for the S2000 considering how much it weighs and how stiff the suspension is. As Woodson said, try 32 then adjust to your liking. I did that and found 37/35 psi (front/rear) was to my liking.

However, I can't see how all four tires at max pressure will cause the car to sway back and forth. It makes more sense that if your tires were grossly underinflated that the sidewalls would flex too much and cause the handling to be sloppy.

I have a similar problem, on certain roads, with my Accord which is running Yokohama AVS Intermediates. Because of the tires tread pattern (continuous grooves around the circumfrence of the tires) the car tends to sway left and right when driving on grooved pavement. The tires like to follow the pavement's grooves which almost makes the car feel like all four tires are flat. However, the S-02s should be relatively immune to that problem since there aren't any continuous grooves in the tread pattern.

I've been told some brands of tyre can cause a 'floating' effect. Do you have OEM SO2's on the car still?
