i still have not heard a decent answer.... would it be to my advantage to remove these strakes? I wouldn't think so, but curious if anyone has done this

Do not remove the strakes. They improve high-speed stability.

As "Red MX5" states, do NOT remove these. Their purpose is to break up the flow of air and re-direct it around the tires.

Think of it like driving with and without a windshield.

I'm not so sure...

I don't think that the high OEM wing is a very effective design. From what I have seen, it has a poor aerodynamic cross section. I think it would add more drag than anything else.

The lip spoiler may actually be better at reducing the lift. It would provide a cleaner separation than could the rear deck alone.
I think our comments are in agreement...the 04+ spoilers are the ones that I think are more form then function, where as the 00-03 spoilers are more function and form (the lip spoiler).

3-4lbs is pretty negligible downforce.

how about aftermarket wings (not spoilers)

I would like to know about this too. I have considered getting OEM rear spoiler and have wondered if it has much functional value or is more decoration. Don't professional racers of S2000's usually use wings? I suspect if the OEM spoiler was more functional than a wing, they would be using them. Maybe someone with expertise in this area can help us understand this better.

The only wing I would even consider is the one made by Back Yard Special. It looks very good and appears to have a good functional design by extending the rear trunk area back instead of up. I think this type of design would help lessen the air that may find it's way under the rear of the car.
