There I was on the highway, running against a turbo civic ready to shift into 5th gear when in fact it shifts into 3rd rather than 5th. What I cant stand is that the entire time I was ahead of this car. Geting back to my story: I go to shift again backing off from the race, and the car decides to shut off. The car would not start again and it seemed as if the crank was locked. Though it sounded that it wanted to turn over. As Im writing Im in the dealer waiting for it to be looked at... This sucks.............

Not good.

When you over-rev by down-shifting, the rev-limiter cannot protect you. The rev-limiter is a fuel cutoff; but you've already transferred the energy from the fuel to the kinetic energy of the car, and the missed shift drives the car to revs the valve train cannot tolerate.

I hope Honda does a courtesy repair for you. Technically destroying the engine by missing a shift is not a warranted problem.

For what it is worth, my buddy who owns a '67 Shelby/AC Cobra 429 missed a shift in a race and did the same thing to his 500 hp Ford engine.

He was in a a race, not a street race.

Unless you have an automatic transmission the correct sentence would be when YOU shifted into 3rd instead of 5th. don't blame the car because you screwed up and missed a shift.

Sorry to hear this sad unintended mistake....

There wan another guy from this forum who experienced something very similar...as I recall it he did exactly what you did...shifted into 3rd when intended to shift into 5th...

He ended up telling the truth to the dealer and from what I remember; the dealer denied the claim....

Good luck...with work with the dealer and you may need to play a little like you don

First of all, I don't think any mechanic would have a question about how the damage happend. Being dishonest reflects on you.

Second, don't you plan on a long term relationship with the dealer.

This board has been loaded with complaints about how dealers lie to customers, misrepresent "news" from Honda and do whatever it takes to make a sale. I'm sure there is an element of truth to it, but that hasn't been my experience.

I just wonder what we would hear if we got into a dealer show. "Can you believe this one guy brings in his S2000 with a trashed engine, a trashed tranny, a trashed differential and in the storage bin we find seventeen tickets for street racing, five dyno printouts, a bunch of printouts from speed runs at the track, and a receipt from a shop for $12,000 in engine mods but no mods on the car showing but some definite wear and tear on the bolts and he says, 'I just tried to drive it to work one day and it wouldn't start. Can you fix it under warranty?'"

Sorry to hear of your problem.........

I cannot understand how anyone could possibly miss a shift in this car.

The gearbox assists in such a way that it is pure pleasure going thru the gears.

The nicest feature of the gearbox is when cruising in 6th and you want to down shift to 4th or 3rd just pop it up and its lined up with those gears. No man handling needed it does the work for you.

Anyway just my two cents.
