Sorry to hear about the mishap. I hope all turns out OK.

If the dealer won't fix it maybe we could take up a collection for a rebuild and an automatic transmission conversion.

Just trying to lighten things up a bit.

Do be careful with that sir, it doesn't mean he can't drive. This transmission has a 2mm varriance, it's easy to make this mistake, and if you haven't made it at least once, you should have purchased a civic. This is not a flame, but don't be so harsh.

What is a 2mm variance? Is that the width of the spacer between gears (i.e., the spacer between 1st and 3rd, 2nd and 4th, etc.)?

Bieg and Allan, give the guy a break. I doubt he came here and posted this looking for abuse, and that's exactly what you guys just gave him. We all make mistakes, and I don't think any of us go looking to have salt rubbed into wounds.
Sondra,

I did not give him any abuse. I just told him (correctly) that HE MADE THE MISTAKE not the car. When he titles the thread as he did and then states the CAR shifted into third he is blaming the car. I am tired of people blaming the car (in a public forum for all to read) for their own stupid mistakes. Just like the guys complaining how evil handling the car is and it turns out they had 15 pounds of air in the tires, etc.... Or like S2000Chris beating the crap out of his car and complaining that it fell apart. Just because a fool drives an S2000 does not mean I have to suffer him gladly.

So don't! Why not just shut up and ignore it? It's posts like these that drive people away from the board rather than to it, and we can all benefit from more versus less people here.

It was a common refrain at S2KDays that this group is very dissimilar to other car groups in that everyone seems to be supportive of everyone else and easy going. Don't ruin it for all of us by being the thorn in the side of the community. By the way, Bieg, when was the last time you posted something positive? I've run across 3 posts from you today, all sour grapes, disapproval, and flames...

I like Beig's posts. He represents a point of view that is lacking in the touchy-feely S2KDays contingent. For the record, Beig has provided some very interesting hostorical posts about the s2000, and has kept a kind of continuity of the legacy of our beloved cars alive.

Some of us come here to gather accurate information about our cars, and when we see disinformation, we weigh in with our opinions. Isn't that the freakin' point? Some people aren't as polite as others. In some cultures, being direct and honest is considered more "thoughtful" than being being comforting.

If you pander to this person's delusional impulse to blame his car for a manual error, then he won't learn any lesson from this experience.

Having said that, I don't have much sympathy for mis-shifts. I've done it, but my body catches it and WHAM the clutch goes in so fast that I never go past 6000rpm, and I can only assume that years of practicing front snap kick is what saved my engine. Hey, if that's what it takes to keep from blowing a valve, then that's what it takes.

Anyway, sorry to hear about that poor s2000 abused and killed in a stupid street race (probably against some 80 year old lady who didn't even know she was in a race). What a waste!!
