Never heard of this either! I will keep an eye on it the next time I open my top, which will probably be during lunch!

I found the problem. Its definitely the elastic straps. They're not pulling that first bar after the windshield bar back all the way. I don't know why this is already a problem on an 08 with 8k miles. I don't want them to replace the whole top. Is it possible to just tighten the straps or lube the bar or something?

When the bar folds back the top is fine, but when the bar folds forward the top gets pinched between the bar and the latches and doesn't go down all the way. I can definitely see where and how those holes everyone mentions happen.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this and how to deal with the dealership?

Check the elasticity on the straps on your top. I'll bet they have lost a good bit. When that happens not only do you have to watch out for the glass, but it is common to punch a couple of fist size holes in the top just behind the latches.

Replace the straps or get the modifry auxilliary straps, it will solve the problem.
Damnit!! That happened to me on my driverside! It got stuck and the latch made a hole in my top! Does anyone have a pic of the replacement straps that you need to purchase?

This just happened to me about 30 minutes ago. Lowering the top I heard a loud pop. When I put the top back up I notice the driver side latch punched a hole through the top. Mine is an 07' with 15K miles on it. I'm located in Atlanta GA. Any suggestions on how to handle getting a replacment and any known issues with a replacment?

Thanks
Drew

What you guys are looking for is this.

http://www.modifry.com/products/ctf/index.htm

Excellent product and easy to install. Bob at modifry is a long time sponsor here and has made some amazing products. I put these in after the dealer replaced my top but didn't replace these straps.

Also, make sure its at least 50 deg outside before you lower the top. Im pretty sure you're not suppose to lower the top in cold weather b/c the material becomes extremely stiff.
