People who modify their cars often put them back to stock before selling or trading them in and many accidents are repaired without any type of report being filed that would show up on a car history report. I haven't used Carmax, but to me it sounds like by using their service you are paying more money for a car that you could just run a vehicle history report on and have a mechanic inspect before purchasing.

Anyone recommend buying an S2k from Carmax? I know they charge more than the KBB value of a car, but it seems like they're strict about accident history, mods, etc in the cars they sell.

I bought mine from carmax and their price was pretty close to kbb. It's nice not to have the hours of haggling you get in a regular dealership. I've also traded in cars to them and most of the time they will give pretty decent offers compared to others
I got my first S from Carmax since it was the only way I could find a GPW one with low miles and no mods and I had it transferred from out of state for free. I had a weird issue come up because I wanted to use my bank to finance the car instead of Carmax's financing (which had really high rates) and long story short, they jacked up my loan on both ends and it took about a week and MANY calls to both Carmax and my bank to get the issue resolved. Anyway, besides that it wasn't too bad. The salesman I had was trying to pressure me into the extended warranty thing they provide but I kept saying no. If they have your car and you don't mind the price then go for it. I'll be doing private part sales from now on (I did for my current S) because it's just easier in the end and you usually get a better deal.
Im guessing its that Laguna Blue one in Maryland? I looked at the ad a few days ago and the car itself looks nice. I have never bought from Carmax but when I bought my 06 LBP and was trading in my 03 BB I ended up having an issue with the dealer and took the car to Carmax to sell it to them. I had driven 5 hours and made a deal over the phone with the dealer so I was pretty upset to have to take it to Carmax, but that was the only way I could see of the have my car sold in a couple of hours.
