I have a question about replacing the catalytic converter with a straight through tube (for off road use only, of course ). I saw that spoon sports makes one and it has a flange for the oxygen sensor. What I

If you are thinking of doing this look no further than Back Yard Special straight pipe.
I just installed this a week ago and I am happy. The gain is subtle around 5 to 7 hp and added noise is minimum.
I will try to post the pics tomorrow with more thorough report.
I cannot answer all your question since my situation of using this is different but if you can wait I will be able to tell you.
The reason I am saying this is that I am using Mugen ECU which cuts out O2 sensor reading. But I can easily put back the original ECU back and check the status and I believe there will be no trouble.
Please wait....
If you want one, contact Giampiero at MG racing.

nope, no auto inspections here in al. (but like i said before, its only for off road use). yes a free flowing cat would work, but i was actually hoping to get a little more exhaust note out of the deal also. 1Randyc i look forward to hearing back from you after the computer switch.

Great! An off road S2000! Perfect for Wyoming!

Where can I get a 4wd conversion kit? Lifters to let it clear those rocks in deep ruts? A front winch and maybe a back one?

Oh yeah... I wonder if they'll have a camo colored off road/4wd S2000 in 2002! Maybe even with Firestone Wilderness AT tires!

Hey,

I'll throw some gas on the fire...

If you remove the converter you will have a constant check engine light but it will not cause any performance problems as far as I know.

The car has two O2 sensors, one in front of the converter and one behind it. The front O2 is part of the fuel management system and is important for the normal operation of the car. The rear O2 is the catalyist efficiency monitor and it's only function is to allow the fuel management system to see if the converter is working.

Another note, depending on the emission test standards used by your state, a converterless S2000 may still pass a emission test. Pobably won't pass a safety inspection if they check for missing emissions components. Feelin' lucky?

Also,
this will probably be a do-it-yourself kind of job since any shop that removes the converter and replaces it with a straight pipe may be fined up to $25,000 by the EPA. Our shop refuses to remove them.
