Mine does that every time so I'm thinking it's supposed to be that way. The friction holds your drink better (although I can't imagine drinking in a car that demands you pay attention when driving).

wait are we talking abouit the right thing. the cover that slides when you open to use your cup holder does not retract regularly. it normal takes lik 1-2 sec to retract. right now its taking like 5 -6 sec

also the retraction does not look normal at all. it retracts fast then slows down then retracts fast again

Did you spill anything in there to make it sticky? Is there anything you can lube?

theres a thin strip of coiled metal in there that controls the movement of the slider lid. Somehow it may have gotton deformed, or the lid is rubbing on its runners.

If you are a DIY kinda guy, remove the center console and take a look. Just remove the shitknob, pull up on the console to unclip it. Youll need to pull out the 2 electric plug and then the console will come off. Flip it over and you can see whats going on (or not) from underneath. FWIW, ive had to adjust mine a couple of times.
