Personally, I would never try this unless I had no choice. What my friend did, was simply to have it in gear, start it up and hit the gas - not very elegant, but it works!

IF I was stranded miles from home with a duff clutch and I was driving an old banger I'd probably think about getting home using the 'No clutch' method. Starting from stationary is very very dodgy!! If it was the same situation in the S2000 I'd be looking for a room for the night! Don't do it!

I had done it many times with my S2000. You just need to really know what you are doing
and how to do it. If you do it right the gear lever will just slide into place.
If you don't had the money to buy a new trans. or don't know how to do it right, you
should better take the warning of our fellow members instead.

Did it a few times years ago. Didn't think it was a good idea then or now. I wouldn't do it in my S.

I had a Toyota beater years ago that I drove all the time and only used the clutch to start from a dead stop. I've shifted clutchless 1000's of times with no problems. I have done it once or twice in the S2000 but I'm not willing to risk it. I probably do it 10% of the time in my CRX.

Oh man, I thought ferreriman was back for a second there, until I saw the date. You older members will know what I am talking about. I loved reading his hillarious threads.

If you match the revs for the next gear there is less wear on your transmission than a quick shift using the clutch. Certainly less than shifting a motorcycle without the clutch. I intend to keep my S2000 another 20 years or so and I occasionally shift without the clutch, just to keep in practice. I'm not worried about hurting my transmission.

I once drove an Audi five miles through rush hour traffic with a clutch that wouldn't disengage. I had to start it two or three times in first gear to get started when I couldn't idle up to stopped traffic. It was a good thing I already knew how to shift without disengaging the clutch. As others have said, I wouldn't do that with my S2000, but mainly because of starting it in gear, not because of shifting without a clutch.

I don't think it's wise to shift the car all the time without a clutch, but I don't believe it is going to hurt much to do it occasionally either.

YMMV
