Default Cheap Air filter replacement

Is there anything special about the stock air filter? And is there anything wrong with going with a $15 Purolator from Advanced Auto Parts? Is there a cheaper filter that anyone can recommend? I dont really have any issue with paying for the stock filter, I was just wondering if it was necessary.
Thanks.

A followup, does anyone carry a replacement for the cabin air filter besides Honda?

I think the possibility exist that they are all pretty much the same. Specs on perferations would be so many microns with an ability to pass so many liters of air over a specified period of time.
Unless mfgs. produce their own filter paper its probably bought in reams from producers of these specialized filter papers which are used in autos ,ac's, hospital flow hoods etc.
Purolator has been in the filter business forever so I'd assume they know exactly what they are doing.
If you feel less comfortable with the Purolator, just change it a little more often.

The cabin air filter is hard to find outside Honda -- I don't know if anyone makes it. I think I got some from go fast, but they were Honda parts.

If I can buy Purolator air filter for only $15, then I will buy it and use it in my car without second thought. The problem is there is no Advanced Auto Parts in So Cal, and other auto part stores are selling S2000 air filter for as much as OEM at Honda dealers.

As JackS said: "Purolator has been in the filter business forever so I'd assume they know exactly what they are doing", Purolator oil filters for most cars are very good so you can assume that their air filters are very good too.
