It's never cheap to mod an NA car, especially the S.

Gear only alters the gear ratio, has nothing to do with the output of the engine.

Some people go with the stroker kit, but I heard it's relatively painful compared to F/I. Besides, it probably won't get you the 180lbs of torque at the wheels with NA setup.

Also, I think this should go into the S2000 Talk forum. This forum is more for people to discuss maintenance/installation/technical knowledge instead of general info about mods.

gears don't add any power, they simply change the delivery of the power you already have. 180 tq is far off and I don't see it happening without ITBs or stroker kit.

wrong forum.

there is no way to get 180tq on a dyno on this car, and be "cheap" about it. gears don't technically increase torque, though they make it like the car does have increased power.

How about if you carefully stuff a towel into one of the exhaust pipes? The backpressure may help generate up to 180 lb-ft of tq, and this mod could be as cheap as $1. But don't ask me about longevity or reliability.

Are you going for wheel-torque, or just at the crank? At the crank, it'd be a 25 pound/sq-ft increase, so that could be possible. It'd likely take bolt-ons and a 2.4L stroker, but that should do it.
At the wheels...it'd probably have to be a built motor with ITB's.

180 torque at the crank is easy to achieve. I made 160wtq with just bolt-ons, and a flywheel combo, on the shittiest day possible to dyno. With no tune! I'd say I was already abive 180 torque to the crank.
