Check engine light!

Default Check engine light!

I was told be a mechanic that the CIL takes away 15% of your horsepower.Does anyone know this to be true???Please advise....Thank you

Depends on what the CEL is for I guess - if its because of a bent valve, it probably results in a much greater loss than 15%.

I heard it does, but you can just slap a sticker or two on your car and it evens out.

Does not a CEL of any kind put the car in sort of a 'limp' mode until it gets resolved or cleared??

No, it depends upon the reason for the CEL. What if the CEL is for a loose gas cap? What would be the point of changing the engine operating parameters for that?

The light doesn't do anything, but that spun bearing or the lack of any oil in your crankcase might be a problem.

The light came on when I installed my invidia test pipe and exhaust.I am sure this is the reson. I have ordered a spacer to fix this problem.i hope it works.
