Yesterday after pressing the start button, the check engine light stayed on. I have verified the gas cap at three clicks and the oil level within specs. That night I reset the ecu and the light turned off and remained off during the next morning drive to work. However, after work the light came back on soon after starting it.

My car is bone stock with about 1500 miles. Any thoughts? If all possiblities have been exhausted, can anyone recommend a reputable service dealer in the northern suburbs of Chicago?

Thanks in advance,
Rev

When you checked the gas cap... did you remove it and then put it back on with three clicks or just re-click it? The same thing happened to me and the light went away once I removed the cap and put it back on.

One thing to note is that the check engine light will supposedly stay on for 3 car trips.

XCARS - Yes, I did make sure I clicked three times after checking and have made the third trip - actually the fourth trip but the light is still on. I've made an appointment with the dealer next week. I'll keep you updated.

the check engine light has to do with the emissions systems, if you feel no real difference in performance there's no critcal hurry (but have it checked)to get it to the dealer. You can still drive your car etc, just don't do 1000 miles. was your battery run down?

drmark - To my knowledge the battery has not been tampered with.

I would be willing to bet money that it is a bad O2 sensor, especially if the car seems to be running correctly.

Dropped my car off this morning at around 8:30. Kathy, the service representative called me at 4:00 telling me that they'll have to continue troubleshooting tomorrow. According to the dealer, the computer diagnostics is pointing to the "air pump"? Any ideas on this guys? Anyway, my schedule won't allow me to bring it back til mid next week. Oh well. She said it's drivable.

you might ask and have them check the fuel pump (eg. air pump) or a possible cracked gas filler opening...I used to do it, putting my hand on top of the pump while filling, occasionally leaning on it, will crack the gas filler tube leading to the gas tank...good luck! hopefully your Honda servicemen are better than my Ford servicemen! They had to fly an engineer from Salt Lake to work on my car to get it working!
I would also like to ask if you would be able to get the code that is generated from the test machine...usually there's a code generated. I don't think it's a bad O2 sensor this soon in the game...especially if the light came on and stayed on right at engine turn on. Anyways, Best of luck to you!

That is the exact same code that I got when I had trouble with the check engine light after my supercharger install. It turns out that someone had accidently loosened and eventually disconnected the electrical plug to the air pump. Had it reconnected and light is gone. So, make sure all electrical connections under the hood are tight.
