Default Check Fuel cap?

I've got a 2006 with 570miles on it.. I've already filled the tank up twice with now issues. This morning I drove to work as always with no problem. At lunch time I get in the car start her up and a few seconds later I get a read out on the dash telling me to check my fuel cap. So I did.. I thought nothing of it. I open the gas door, re tighten the cap, turn the car off wait a while then turn it on again.. bah!! Still - it's telling me to check my fuel cap..

To make a long story short. I've tried everything even a differnt gas cap, but the sensor is still going off. Is this a common problem? Do i have to reset the warning some how?

Thanks in advance

Just tightening the cap will not turn off the warning light. It takes several driving cycles before the sensor detects the proper condition. The ECU doesn't know you went out and turned the gas cap.

So, is this a new feature on the 2006? I'm pretty sure my MY02 just generates a check engine light for this.

Yup, new feature. Like many of today's car's, the S2000 now has a "loose gas cap" light.

It's not the length of the drive. It's the number of drives. I tested it once and I drove for nearly 20 miles and nothing happened.
If you have a BACK UP fuse in the under-dash fuse panel, pull it for about 15 seconds and put it back (ignition OFF). Not positive, but this might turn the light off.
