Checking out insurance numbers for the S
I pay $800/yr, a little more than a normal sedan. To keep it low, I self-insure with high deductibles and none of the extras like PIP, towing, rental, or uninsured. I do have high enough limits to cover all my assets though - very important.
[QUOTE=rworne,Feb 1 2006, 02:38 PM] Remember all those posts about people "driving spirited" and somehow wound up with their car in a ditch or on a curb? All those stolen seats? Those cars that took a side trip off a canyon road? They all add up eventually and the S2000 is now getting some really crappy ratings from the IIHS:

I'm paying roughly $230/mo for comprehensive/collision/pip and a $250 deductible on both my S and a '02 RSX-S.
I had the RSX first, and when I added the S as a second car my premium went up roughly $100/mo.
Not too bad, but I hope it stays that way.

I pay $1,014 / 6 months on my '06 S2k, owned in full. Added to my policy to replace my '02 Civic Si, it increased it about $200 bucks per 6 months. I have USAA w/ $500 deductible, and $1mil coverage.

Ouch those numbers are harsh. Premiums here have not gone up since '02. Infact, mine went down a couple years ago when I hit 25
I have my s2k, my civic, and renters insurance through state farm. Just about max coverage on it all and pay 160/month.

Can you explain how the self insurance works? What is it you are getting for the $800 per year?
One step further would be to drop comprehensive when the car is only worth $5k or so. That would be a long time for most S2000s though.
