Default Clutch question - please calm my fears.....

Had this happen three times now over the past year or so, any info would be appreciated.

Long story short, after gassing up at a local station I have parked, shifted into neutral, turned off the ignition, hand brake, gassed up, and them got back in and restarted.

There is a slight incline, and after starting, shifting into first and trying to start out I have just rolled back. Obviously, the clutch is not engaging.

No grind, no unusal noise of any kind.

All three times, I have broke, shifted into neutral, back to first and then took off no problem.

Does this sound like I have not shifted into first "all the way" , or does this resemble any of the many clutch issues I have read about here?

The S was my first manual shift, and reading this board makes me very paranoid sometimes, even though I haven't had any issues in my 00'

I stalled it a few times when learning, but have never once "ground" any gears, no clutch drops, nothing abnormal.

TIA,

Eddie

More than likely, first gear wasn't engaged. Dependening on the outside temp, first gear is sometimes hard to put in.

use the ebrake when starting on slopes...
you surely dont want to back into anything!!
doesnt sound like a clutch issue to me, unless your clutch is totally gone- but it wouldnt work at all if that was the case.

Eddie, I wouldn't worry about it. First gear and reverse are "catchy" in most manual trans cars, especially the s2000.

It happend to me sometime so the next time you shift in first ( Car start rolling normally ) just check where your shifter is, so the next time you'll be sure it is engage properly.
If it doesn't want to engage just put in third or second and then put it back to first gear ....It works with me.

I have shifted into first and found that the shifter stops just before it falls into place... or that it stops with another 1/2-3/4 of an inch left to go.

You think it's in gear, you step on the gas, car goes nowhere. If you touch the shifter, and push it ever so slightly, using your hand to feel what the problem is, it grinds like nobody's business.
