Colgan Bra Fix - No more flapping
Here is a picture of my Colgan Bra with fiberglass mesh screen inserts in the headlight openings. Some people have added clear vinyl but I think the mesh is a better solution. Why didn't Colgan do this in the first place?
The mesh allows the headlight to stay cool while keeping the edges of the openings in place. At night I don't see any difference in the brightness of the headlights. I don't think the mesh is dense enough to block very much light.
The mesh is actually sewn to the existing felt piping with an additional felt layer applied over the cut/stitched portion of the mesh. When I took the picture I put some white paper behind the opening so you can see the black mesh.

I have to thank Johnyboy32 for the idea and my wife who is an excellent seamstress for performing the installation of the material.
If you want to see what it looks like on a car, check out the following thread. You really can't tell the Silver S2k has the mesh over the headlights while the Yellow S2k does not

If anyone wants to have this done to their Colgan nose mask send me a PM and I'll see about doing it for you.

It is nylon screen mesh. I got it from Pep Boys in the form of a "front end protector". You know those big ugly screen door looking things you see covering the front of minivans...
Anyway, I payed about $5 for one and cut out the pieces that I needed.
Dave,
Just a coincidence I assure you.

Spectacular! Now I can repaint my bumper to get rid of the chips and not have to worry about it getting fragged again!
Thanks for the tip. And perhaps when I buy my Colgan I'll send it and some cash to you and your wife :-)

This sounds like a pretty good solution. I spoke with Colgan a week ago and was planning on bringing my car over to the factory to show them the lifting problem. They claim they've only heard about it a couple of times. I thought about the plastic idea, but was concerned about the heat. This takes care of that. A little "dimming" of the headlights may not be such a bad thing, anyway!
REVS29K, there's no noticeable difference with headlight brightness with the mesh sewn into the openings. People still flash me as if my highbeams are on.
I'd like to see Colgan add this feature as a standard part of their design. Maybe they can also put some screening over the large radiator opening too.
