Compression test
Im looking to purchase a s2k from a honda dealership. Is it stupid to have them run a compression test prior to me arriving at the dealership? FYI - I have to travel and dont know a good honda mechanic to use (in Indy).
I guess if you asked them to do one you might be asked to pay for it. I think it depends on the previous owner (s) and how many miles are on it. I had to fly to get mine from a dealer, but the older one previous owner had only 30K miles so I was not concerned.

Seriously though, I wouldn't have the dealership who you are making the purchase from do any kind of inspection work for you. I'm not saying they will be dishonest, but it's completely a conflict of interest and just a bad idea. And it is customary for the buyer to pay for any inspections.
If I were you, I would go into the regional forum for that area and get recommendations for good specialty shops in that area which can do a proper Pre Purchase Inspection for you. Low mileage is a very good sign and if it looks well cared-for, you might not really need a compression test. But do get the PPI done and have it done someplace other than the dealer.
Ask to see the service history for the car, that will give you an idea of how it was treated. A Honda with 50k and serviced regularly is barely broke in, I wouldn't worry about It. A PPI might run you slightly more than the $75, but will also give you added piece of mind.
